Where to properly put JSON file to be used by module

0

I am pretty new to Magento 2, so most of the things I do are mostly PoC.

What I have right now is a module under my theme. It has a Block class and a view file already. Now before I put much effort into creating a Model for it, I want the data to come from json files. I know I can create any folder to contain the json files but I want to do it the Magento 2 way, but I can't seem to find it in their documentation. Any recommendations?
