Add block to layout in event observer

0

I'm new with magento development and I need to use a observer to change some pages

I tried to follow this question:

Add block to layout dynamically in event observer

But I'm getting "false" when I try to get block in this line:

$layout->getBlock('footer');

That's my observer:

<controller_action_predispatch_catalog_product_view>
<observers>
<auto_invoice_order>
<type>singleton</type>
<class>Nome_Nome2_Model_Observer</class>
<method>nomeMetodo</method>
</auto_invoice_order>
</observers>
</controller_action_predispatch_catalog_product_view>

I already tried to use postdispatch just in case.
